It boasts outstanding alpine and lake scenery, a wild colonial gold mining history and one of the best cold climate wine growing regions in the world. The region is New Zealand’s centre for snow sports, attracting national and international visitors every winter.
Queenstown is within easy distance of four commercial ski areas as well as options for heliskiing and cross country skiing – but winter is not the only time to visit Queenstown. It’s known as the adrenalin capital of New Zealand and, any time of the year, activities available include jet boating, hiking, river rafting, kayaking, bungy jumping, mountain biking, paragliding, sky diving, golf, fly fishing and winery visiting. Queenstown and surrounding areas have been showcased in many movies, perhaps most famously Sir Peter Jackson’s ‘Lord of the Rings’ trilogy.
If all that is not enough, the city itself has a young, late-night après ski vibe and the region hosts events ranging from multi-sport mountain-to-mountain team racing, through to wine and food events and its own jazz festival annually. Get in among it with our Queenstown transport services!
